PGP Paused, Super Visa Open: Why Are They Not the Same Pathway?
Both involve parents and grandparents, but one concerns permanent residence and the other a temporary visit. What does the PGP pause change?
Two programs concern parents and grandparents joining family in Canada. That shared purpose can obscure a central difference: one is a permanent-residence pathway, the other a temporary-visit route.
What did IRCC announce about PGP?
In its July 15, 2026 notice, IRCC said new Parents and Grandparents Program intake would remain paused until further notice. The announcement distinguished new intake from applications already received.
Why does the Super Visa appear in the same conversation?
IRCC identifies the Super Visa as a temporary option for eligible parents and grandparents. It does not grant permanent residence or replace a PGP sponsorship application.
What makes the two assessments different?
The Super Visa has its own host-income, invitation, medical-insurance and eligibility requirements. Sponsorship for permanent residence involves a different framework and obligations.
A shared family relationship does not make the routes interchangeable. The pause is an intake-policy development, not a finding about any particular family’s eligibility for another program.
For individual questions, private consultations with Transfigured Immigration provide a separate setting for discussing a person’s circumstances.
